Brothers Behind Bintani Win Lifetime Achievement Award

Meet Phil and Dale Meddings, brothers and joint CEOs of ingredients supplier Bintani.

Earlier this month Phil and Dale were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Beer & Brewer Awards in Sydney. The award recognizes their decades of dedication to Australia’s beer industry, and celebrates their influence on the industry and the community around it.

“It’s humbling,” they told Beer & Brewer following the presentation. “The beautiful thing is that there’s so much more to come as well. It feels like this should be something at the end of your career, but we want to keep doing what we’re doing for a long time.”

The award follows a significant milestone for Bintani, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025.

Founded by their father, Pete Meddings, in 1995, Bintani began as a small operation supplying yeast to homebrewers from a backyard shed in Melbourne. Over the following three decades, it has evolved into one of Australia and New Zealand’s major suppliers of brewing and distilling ingredients, supporting the growth of the independent brewing sector.

When asked to reflect on the achievements they were most proud of, the brothers were reluctant to single out any particular milestone.

“We’re just servants of the industry. All we do is support our customers, and their success is our success.”

The brothers’ contribution was recognized by the Beer & Brewer Awards judging panel, comprising more than 40 industry professionals, with their influence extending well beyond Bintani’s role as an ingredients supplier.

In his judging submission, Kevin Davis of Thirsty Merchants highlighted their longstanding commitment to helping others succeed.

“They’ve spent pretty much their whole working lives supporting the beer industry. Not just building Bintani but backing breweries, events, ideas and people along the way including ourselves at Thirsty Merchants. They’ve helped shape the industry behind the scenes for decades and genuinely seem to care about seeing everyone around them succeed. Very deserving of the recognition.”
