Alix Tree Planting Trials Re-use of Steeping Water

As part of Rahr’s commitment to sustainability, 2 acres of hybrid poplar trees have been planted at Rahr Malting Co.’s Alix, AB facility to trial re-use of the steeping water that’s a byproduct of the malting process. Currently, after use in the steeping phase of malting, the excess water undergoes a series of treatments prior to use as irrigation water in fields.

Koda Energy Celebrates 6th Annual Bioenergy Day

Koda Energy celebrated the 6th Annual Bioenergy Day this Wednesday at their facilities on the Rahr Malting campus in Shakopee, Minnesota. Fellow renewable and bioenergy businesses attended to present their contribution to the environment. Doors opened at 9am and the event went to 3pm, complete with tours of the Koda Energy plant, presentations, and food provided by Woodmaster.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development awarded $610,000 in Job Creation Fund resources to Rahr Malting Corporation on Friday, helping position the Shakopee-based company to begin its $68 million expansion and addition of 28 full-time employees. One of Minnesota’s longest-standing family businesses, Rahr manufactures malt and distributes ingredients for the brewing and beverage industry worldwide.

Koda Energy Reopens Newly Designed Biomass Facility in Shakopee

SHAKOPEE, Minn. – Koda Energy announced today that it has reopened its biomass facility with a new design to enhance safety, increase reliability, and reduce emissions. Koda suspended operations on April 25, 2013, when a fire started in two of the facility’s silos that contained wood chips and oat hulls.

Mr. Gary Lee announces his retirement from Rahr Corp.

Rahr Corporation (“Rahr”) announced today (December 9, 2013) that Mr. Gary Lee, 62, President and Chief Executive Officer will retire from the company effective October, 2014. Mr. William Rahr, 45, current President of Rahr Malting Co., a subsidiary of the Corporation, has been named President of Rahr Corporation, and will succeed Mr. Lee as Chief Executive Officer upon his retirement.
